Strategies for Literacy Mentoring in Group Guidance and Counseling to Enhance Students' Reading Interest
Abstract
This study aims to identify strategies for literacy mentoring through group guidance and counseling to improve students' reading interest at SDI Waewaru. The research was conducted at SDI Waewaru, located in Ngada Regency, Aimere District. The population consists of one class, specifically the third grade, with a total of 23 students. It was found that reading interest was notably low, with six students displaying very low reading interest. Reading is a crucial component of all learning processes, as it serves as a gateway to acquiring knowledge, which is essential for achieving success. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, collecting data through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation of student activities during learning processes and literacy practices at school. The results of the study indicate that reading interest remains low due to several factors, including a lack of reading habits, insufficient parental support to motivate students to increase their reading interest, and a lack of teacher creativity in developing students' reading skills.
