Scruf Media to Improve Literacy Skills of Elementary Students
Abstract
This research aimed to enhance the literacy skills of lower-grade students at SDK Nuabosi, focusing on letter recognition through the use of Scruf media as an instructional tool. The study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive qualitative approach, gathering data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The problem addressed was the students' low literacy levels due to insufficient learning media, which hindered their ability to recognize letters. To solve this, the researcher implemented Scruf media with two indicators: (1) identifying letters pointed out by the teacher and (2) drawing letter shapes using Scruf. The results showed a significant improvement in students' letter recognition abilities, with grades 1 and 2 students demonstrating accurate and consistent performance. The use of Scruf media facilitated the learning process, increased student engagement, and fostered enthusiasm. These findings indicate that appropriate learning media play a crucial role in enhancing literacy, particularly in early education, by providing practical tools that encourage active participation and improve learning outcomes.
